Sewer planning

BaSYS Sewer Planning enables the graphical and interactive, database-driven design, calculation or recording and documentation of sewer networks based on the supported CAD (AutoCAD, BricsCAD, Microstation) and GIS applications (ArcGIS, Geomedia). Designed or recorded sewer segments, manholes, service connection pipes, catchment areas and special structures are automatically stored in a project database, including all technical information. Thus the planned distribution network can be graphically generated again and/or updated from the database at any time.

Standard interfaces such as ISYBAU 0196 / 0601 or ISYBAU 2006 XML support the convenient exchange of sewer source data and hydraulics result data in a system-independent format. Survey data of existing sewer objects can also be imported for sewer planning via a freely configurable ASCII interface.

Technical data forms for all network elements are loaded automatically when the object is clicked in the graphic. Manual data changes are written back to the project database and the graphic is automatically updated accordingly.

The planner is provided with extensive graphical design and editing options for site planning. Specific processes for designing and editing point, line and area elements are combined into workflows.

For example, an interactive menu opens for tract design where, among other things, the same object values (kind of drainage, material, street name etc.) can be specified for all manholes and sewer segments to be subsequently set. Setting two manholes automatically generates sewer segments and their topology according on the chosen design direction (in or against the flow direction).

Geodic points from survey files can be imported and mapped as auxiliary points for planning. Thus the manhole cover heights for the manholes that are set are automatically interpolated during planning. The corresponding manhole and pipe bed heights are also determined by specifying a minimum and maximum manhole depth in combination with a slope.

New catchment areas can be designed and existing ones modified through the graphical interface, with the option to assign multiple partial catchment areas to one sewer segment. Then the area sizes are recalculated and are available as input values for a hydraulics calculation.

An interactive longitudinal section is available to the planner for elevation planning. The sewer segments to be considered for elevation planning can be conveniently selected in the layout graphic by clicking a starting and ending sewer segment. Here it does not matter whether a tract section is selected in or against the flow direction. All elevation data can be edited manually or automatically.

A uniform slope, bed equality or top of pipe equality can for example be generated with a mouse click. It is also possible to automatically adapt pipe bed heights to manhole bed heights or the other way around.

BaSYS Sewer Planning uses the sewer calculation according to the time coefficient procedure for dimensioning gravity flow sewer networks. It is based on ATV A 118. The calculation accesses the planning data directly.

  • Using the “dimensioning” calculation type re-dimensions all sewer segments of the network currently being calculated.
  • The utilisation of the sewer segments is first calculated for partial dimensioning according to inventory records. All sewer segments that exceed the allowable utilisation are automatically re-dimensioned in a second step.
  • In partial dimensioning according to the planning status, only the sewer segments in planning are dimensioned.
  • Urban drainage is calculated using the simplified sum method according to the drainage guidelines for street design (RAS Entwässerung). Drainage is summed with no reductions (no time coefficient).

The optimum manhole structure for standard manholes and the pipe sections for pipeline segmentation can be determined automatically through an integrated manhole and pipe component library. Bills of material for manhole and pipe components can be created, on the one hand to prepare for cost determination and on the other hand as a basis for preparing service specifications.

The sewer planning results can be viewed and output in various forms using BaSYS Sewer Planning. For example, standardised reports according to ATV A 118 are available for the calculation results. Custom reports can be defined using the integrated Report Designer. Data output to Excel is supported as a matter of course.

A powerful longitudinal section program is available to the planner for outputting elevation plans. Legends can be defined as desired for each longitudinal section. Any horizontal and vertical scale can be used for representation. The representation of parallel pipe tracts stacked in the mapping direction is possible as well. This means both the existing and planning data as well as rainwater and sanitary flow lines are directly comparable. Serial pipe tracts, that is to say consecutive tract sections, can of course be output as well.

Theme plans with various layouts and scaling are available to output planning site plans.
