UC4: Data salad – suffocate or act!

“Getting to know different requirements and perspectives, but also similar problems and suitable solutions.”
That is what one participant at UC4 – the fourth BaSYS User Conference – said when asked what he liked best about the conference. UC4 under the motto “Data salad – suffocate or act!” was held on 12 and 13 June 2013 in the convention centre of the Juliusspital in Würzburg.

However, the user conference did not focus on the Franconian wines but the presentations of users reporting about the practical application of the network information system BaSYS. Aside from discussing current topics and challenges, the focus was also on special projects that have been completed successfully. Every presentation was concluded by discussions where questions about the topic were answered and the specific exchange of experiences between the participants gathered speed.

Workshops on four different topics related to the use of BaSYS in practice were held with smaller groups of participants in parallel to the presentations, imparting “compact knowledge quickly without overtaxing you” (participant comment). The workshops were repeated three times during the event so that every UC participant had the opportunity to choose a suitable time for a topic of interest without missing a presentation that was important to them. Generous coffee breaks for get-together were also part of the agenda so that the participants could easily get into direct contact with each other.

Numerous conversations developed between the participants during the evening programme as well. As a group we toured the wine cellar of the second-largest German and largest Franconian vineyard, the Staatlicher Hofkeller which was well worth seeing. Located in the heart of Würzburg, it is underneath the Würzburger Residence with the rondel cellar, cask cellar, chamber cellar, clerks’ cellar, Bacchus corner and red wine cellar. More in-depth discussions followed during the subsequent shared three-course meal in the restaurant of another Franconian vineyard.

Both days of the user conference were moderated by Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Claudia Hickmann. As BARTHAUER’s Sales Manager, she welcomed the participants and, before each participant presentation, introduced interesting facts and theories about the terms “data” and “salad” that made the attendees marvel and smile.

In the comment field of the questionnaire form collected at the end of the event, participants wrote that the user conference is “a good platform” for “networking with other participants”. We were very pleased that just about all participants indicated on the questionnaire that they want to attend UC5 in 2014.

Once again we very much enjoyed organising the BaSYS User Conference this year. Thank you to the participants for all the positive feedback! We are already looking forward to UC5 next year.
